The Lehrer*zimmer at PROGR is located between the café bar, kitchen and art bookshop. It is an open space where enjoyment and contemporary art come together. Coffee or Negroni and simple food create an atmosphere of exchange and contemplation.
As a former place of learning, the Lehrerzimmer still sees itself as a space for communication. The art book takes centre stage: selected small publishers present their works, and book presentations, exhibitions, performances, concerts and film screenings find their way into the space.
We look forward to the ‘Lehri’ as a festival hub, event venue, pub and late-night spot. The venue offers what we wanted for the 2026 edition: a cosy pub atmosphere where art and culture are not neglected. We want to do crossword puzzles with you, read poetry, listen to artists, make radio, listen to concerts, celebrate and eat Syrian food. A bit of everything, from after work until late at the Lehrer*zimmer festival centre!
Santa Rosa: To make the festival visible to the public both inside and outside the Lehrer*zimmer, Santa Rosa from Bern have taken charge of the scenography and transformed the Lehri – we’re looking forward to a refresh inspired by the 2026 colour scheme, which will give the venue and its exterior a festive feel!
Festival centre in Lehrer*zimmer
Lehrer*zimmer is located in the heart of the Old Town, just a few minutes from Bern’s main train station. From Lehrer*zimmer, you can reach all venues quickly; the longest walk is to the Dampfzentrale, which is situated just outside the city center on the Aare River. The Lehrer*zimmer is part of PROGR, a studio building and event venue in the heart of Bern, featuring a large courtyard. The café-bar is located inside the building and is accessible via PROGR’s courtyard. Uncovered parking spaces and a parking garage are located in the immediate vicinity, as are PubliBike stations and bike racks.

On foot
From Bern Train Station: about 5 minutes
From the train station, walk down Bollwerkstrasse to number 25, then turn right onto Speichergasse. This will take you quickly to your destination, which is located in the courtyard of PROGR on your left. The Lehrer*zimmer is at the end of the building closest to Waisenhausplatz.
From Tojo Theater: about 7 minutes
The Tojo Theater is located in the Reitschule alternative cultural center. From the Tojo Theater, cross the forecourt and turn onto Speichergasse.
From Schlachthaus Theater: about 8 minutes
From the Schlachthaus Theater, take Rathausgasse to Waisenhausplatz. From there, Speichergasse leads you directly to the PROGR building, where the Lehrer*zimmer is located.
By public transport
From Bern Bahnhof: Bus 20
Take bus 20 one stop to “Bollwerk,” then turn onto Hodlergasse and proceed to Speichergasse.
From Dampfzentrale: Bus 30
Take bus 30 (this line runs only in the evening) from “Dampfzentrale” to “Bern Bahnhof.” From there, transfer to the line described above.
From Schlachthaus Theater: (5-minute walk): Tram 9
From “Zytglogge,” take tram 9 toward “Bern Bahnhof.” Then transfer to the line described above under “From Bern Bahnhof.”
From Tojo Theater and Grosse Halle:
The Tojo Theater and the Grosse Halle are at the same site and are very close by; there is no public transportation connection between Lehrer*zimmer and Tojo Theater / Grosse Halle.
By bike
From Bern train station: about 1 minute
From the train station, ride down Bollwerkstrasse to number 25, then turn right onto Speichergasse. This will take you quickly to your destination, which is located in the courtyard of PROGR on your left.
By car
Within walking distance (6 minutes) of the teachers' lounge is Schützenmatte, located at Neubrückstrasse 2, 3012 Bern, which has a few parking spaces for people with mobility impairments. There are also a few parking spaces for people with mobility impairments on nearby Hodlerstrasse. The nearest covered parking facility to the Lehrer*zimmer is Metroparking, Waisenhausplatz 19. There are 3 parking spaces for people with mobility impairments and 10 secure “women’s” parking spaces. The parking garage is well-lit 24/7.
